PERSON-CENTRED COUNSELLING

A talking therapy that can change lives

MY APPROACH

I am trained in, and work as a person-centred counsellor.  I am warm and caring and will listen carefully to what you are saying, trying to understand how you are feeling, and be there for you, whatever it is you are experiencing.  The session will be led by you and you can talk about whatever you wish to.  The foundation of person-centred therapy, developed by American psychologist Carl Rogers, is that each of us has the potential to lead a happier and more fulfilled life, if we are in a  therapeutic relationship that encourages and fosters internal growth.  I am empathic, genuine and caring, and my aim is to provide a healing relationship where you can take the time to explore and connect with yourself.

THE THERAPEUTIC RELATIONSHIP

The therapeutic relationship that we develop will be built on my authentic acceptance and empathy.  Therapy may lead you to feel more connected to your emotions.  You may feel you have more choices in life, or that you think differently about how you relate to the world, you may feel happier or closer to others.  But, counselling can also feel painful at times - if this happens we can try to find ways to make the emotions you're experiencing more manageable.

SESSIONS

I am currently offering sessions over Zoom.  The first step is a free 30 minute session to see if I have the skills to work with you, and you feel you would like to work with me.  We'll then meet weekly for as long as you would like to - I offer short and long-term therapy.  In our initial session I will ask you about your reasons for seeking counselling, previous experience of counselling, and what you hope to gain from therapy.  You can tell me as much as you want to at this session.  If you decide to pursue counselling with me, my fee is £40 for a 60 minute session.
